We’ll get to the promised post about that brave Little Engine next time, but there’s a very important lesson to get to first.
Sales may just be the greatest career in the entire world. Yeah, I guess I’m a little biased, but stick me here. For all of its greatness, there’s one major problem with a career in sales………
The job doesn’t exactly shut off when “normal business hours” end.
During my time as a sales manager, I spent nearly as much time working during the “non-business hours” as I did between 9 and 5. My phone was permanently attached to my ear during busy times of the year.
When you’re working like that, it’s quite easy to burn out.
The point?
This blog is going on hiatus for a couple of days for the Christmas holiday. As should all of us. When it’s time to work, work your butt off. But when you get that elusive “break” (holidays, vacations, etc.), make it a break. Don’t take work with you, don’t think about work. Don’t be me…….the guy who spent an entire family vacation on the phone five years ago because I didn’t know how to shut it off and take a break.
Enjoy the break, have a fantastic holiday, and come back ready to rock and roll on the 26th!
Now go eat, drink or sing something! Merry Christmas!
